Parent Tips

Room for Growing Child

Set an example
Let your child see you reading books, magazines, or newspapers. This sets a positive example for your child and shows that you think reading is important.

Peanut Butter Modeling Dough
(not recommended for children under 2 years)
Place 3 tablespoons peanut butter, 3 tablespoons toasted wheat germ, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1 tablespoon powered milk in a small bowl and mix well. This modeling dough is edible, so be sure your child's hands, the playing surface, and any utensils that your child uses are thoroughly clean. You can refrigerate you child's creation on a tray lined with waxed paper before serving them as snacks.

Fluffy Rabbit
See the fluffy rabbit as it hops, (Hold hands at sides of head for ears)
One ear up while the other flops. (Bend down one hand)
He's a gentle fellow with a twitchy nose, (Wiggle nose)
He's all furry from his ears to his toes. (Wiggle rabbit ears, then toes)

Pear Bunny
For each serving, place a lettuce leaf on a plate and a canned pear half on top of it, flat side down. At the narrow end of the pear, insert two whole cloves for eyes and two almond halves for ears. At the other end of the pear, place a spoonful of cottage cheese for a fluffy white tail. If desired, arrange a few grapes around the pear bunny for eggs. (Note: Remove the cloves before eating the bunny)

"It Is Raining"
Sung to Frere Jacques
It is raining, it is raining
On my head, on my head.
Pitter, patter raindrops,
Pitter, patter raindrops,
I'm all wet! I'm all wet?
