Learn, Play, Grow
The classroom is set up to promote learning in every area. Changes to the environment are made to that reflect the monthly theme’s we are learning. The teachers are always near helping your young preschooler how to use new materials and how to play with friends. We provide a good balance of active, quiet, group and structured activities so your child will be happy and content while away from home. The activities will be drawn from the following curriculum areas; art, science, woodworking, cooking, music and movement, drama, literacy (which includes Zoo Phonics reading program), large motor, fine motor, practical life, social and physical skills.
* Pre-Reading: Children will be using Zoo Phonics reading program.
The children will learn phonics and play word games that will
eventually help them to become readers. Zoo phonics helps
children through Animal sounds and movement games. Along
with our reading program we use a whole language approach to
help the children with their vocabulary, articulation, proper
grammar through stories, pictures and poems.
* Math & Science: Activities are introduced to help children recognize
shapes, sorting, quantity, serrate, matching, numbers and
counting. Science projects, experiments, cooking and measuring
projects are done on a weekly basis. You will notice Zoo Phonics
activities also introduced in math program.
* Self-Help: Staff encourages children to dress, eat, wash, use the
toilet, and wait for turns on their own.
* Large Motor: Children go outdoors twice daily, weather permitted.
We encourage children to participate in daily exercises and games
to help their coordination and gross motor abilities.
* Art & Sensory: Art projects, sensory containers, easel and art
shelves are available for use during structured and unstructured
times. Different media is introduced all of the time; some of it is
very messy but loads of fun.
* Social Emotional: Kindness, acceptance, respect, and equality
(K.A.R.E.) is the name of our program that promotes self-esteem
and self-worth in all children. The teachers promote cooperative
play and friendship. Children are introduced to multicultural
activities and teachers encourage respect and understanding
for individual differences.
Schedules are posted weekly for parent to view, yearly calendars are available.
