Fall 2010
We would like to welcome you to our Fall Program. The first day is Tuesday, September 7th , 2010.
Room For Growing will be closed on Monday, September 6th for Labor Day.
Back to school is just as exciting for us as it is for the children and families. It is rewarding to see the children starting the program for the first time or moving to a new classroom, as well as sending the children off on their first day of Kindergarten. We all have new challenges and we hope for a wonderful Fall Program.
Zoophonics has proven to be successful for the children so we will continue to use that as the basis of our curriculum. It encompasses not only reading and phonics but also the math, science, social studies, art & music and large motor. The children enjoy learning about the animals as they participate in activities surrounding the letters. A review of those animals, the names and signals, is included in this packet. We also incorporate baby sign for the infants and toddlers and Spanish for the older children. We have developed a list of common words and try to use them as we talk to the children. Finally, as part of our large motor and exercise we have added Yoga. The children will learn a pose a week. The poses have cue cards and child friendly names so the children can remember them.
Building a strong parent partnership between families and staff is the key to making your child’s experience successful. You will get information in several different ways. First, newsletters are sent out each month along with classroom information including a calendar outlining the concepts, themes, special days, activities, and parent/child events. Visitors will be planned each month. Secondly, you will get daily information, verbally and/or written. Weekly schedules and lunch/nap charts are posted outside of the classroom. Teachers are available for phone calls and at drop off/ pick up for messages. Periodically teachers will also call parents, just to talk or let you know of happenings with your child. Finally, we want to remind you of our “open door policy.” You are always welcome to participate in activities with your child at any time of the day. This could include watching a visitor, doing an art project, eating lunch, or reading a story to the class- just let the teachers know!
Your input and feedback is important in helping us develop the best educational program. We look forward to a great school year full of new experiences, growth, love and learning!
